leanne at TWO year

leanne at two weighs 11.9kg and 79cm

she likes to say she's three months old when i ask her her age. she can sing the alaphet song (actually she already started singing that back in december when sf yee ma was back), lullaby baby, twinkle twinkle little stars. these rhymes in its entirety. her other favourite is 'hush little baby, don't say a word, mommy's gonna buy you a mocking bird, if that mocking bird don't sing, mommy's gonna buy you a mocking bird...she goes round and round with that.

she surprised us all the other day. rolin is planning to go home to take care of her own sons. so one night while getting leanne ready for bed, i told her that auntie rolin will go home and another auntie will take care of leanne. another auntie and ah jia will take care of leanne. a week later, she turned round to rolin and told her the exact some words. she said 'auntie go home. another auntie take care of leanne. another auntie and ah jia take care of leanne'. i was caught off guard by her little exposure to rolin. rolin told me that leanne kept saying auntie go home a couple of times before i got home. maybe that explains her clingliness over the last few days.

bad germs part ii

we tried to prepare leanne in advance of the trip in the hope that the dentist could remove the stain from leanne's teeth.
mr s told little leanne two nights before the trip that auntie dentist would put something on leanne's teeth to zzzzzzzzerrrrrrrr....the night before the visit when mrs s told leanne that she would come home early the next day to bring leanne to auntie dentist. Leanne nodded her head and with her finger pointing like a toothbrush at her teeth, said she didn't want to zzzzzzzzzzerrrrrrrrr....that got mrs s a bit concerned.
nevertheless, mrs s took leanne to see auntie dentist yesterday. the pediatric dentist was very good. we started with a story with different animals and teeth and a toothbrush for leanne to play with it. leanne also got to hold onto the little tooth mirror to get used to it. finally, auntie dentist took the polishing tool and told leanne that she had to turn on the battery to make it work but it was soft and ran it on a few of leanne's finger tips to help reduce the fear factor. finally, with leanne lying on mrs s lap and mrs s holding onto leanne's hands, auntie dentist managed to remove the stains on her front teeth. leanne was still quite terrified at first but the little brave darling tolerated us for about 30 seconds before she started wailing. all these were done without us having to sit on the scary dental chair or the bright light shining at us.

little leanne and all, including auntie rolin, were very pleased with the result. when we ask leanne about her sparkies, she would give us a great smile!

however, it seems like leanne is indeed one of the unlucky ones with bacteria in her mouth and we will have to be very conscientious about her oral hygiene and the stains will keep coming back....we've also stopped using
first teeth toothpaste. it's not necessary to use it for her age.

Leanne's 2nd Birthday

We did not get as many pictures as we'd like on Leanne's 2nd Birthday.

We started the day with a pancake breakfast at Macker's (not proud) and then headed to Jake and Tess' birthday bash at East Coast Parkway Polliwogs. Leanne was overwhelmed by the colour balls and stayed in that pen for almost the entire duration (photos to come). She also could not believe that we were not even batting an eyelid at her lunch offering of pizza, deep fried chicken chunks, chips, sandwich, orange squash, two types of birthday cake and ice cream!

She went from mains to cake and back to mains and then ice cream and then back to mains ... Nick Bailey witnessed the whole feasting sequence and wondered aloud about the quality of her meals at home! I think she has had enough bland porridge!

Later that evening we celebrated Leanne's birthday properly with a family gathering. Photos of her swimming to come. She does like the water ...

the bad germs

Plaque and dark stains have started appearing on leanne’s teeth. We brought her to see auntie Margaret but because she is so young, there isn’t much she could do.
According to auntie Margaret, leanne is one of those unfortunate kids where bacteria grow easily in their mouth.
Hence, we could only cajole leanne to brush her teeth at home. Leanne would say auntie Margaret say brush the molars and she would also attempt to copy benji kor kor the way he brushes his front teeth. However, most of the time, leanne would be sucking the toothpaste and biting the toothbrush.
Sometimes when the cajoling doesn’t work, I would resort to force accompanied with lots of screaming and protest from leanne. This usually happens in the morning and before bedtime..I feel really bad that leanne’s day has to start and end so badly. I’m always filled with guilt and felt I should have done a better job when she was younger and be more vigilant with her oral care.
One morning after another episode, as I was carrying her and walking towards the car, in our morning routine, I told leanne that mommy was sad. She looked at me and said ‘sorry mommy’. These were the sweetest words I’ve heard.
